IMPACT Bristol 'Organisational Development' Team Award & Overall 2010 Winners.
The Overall Award was presented to IMPACT, a unique Bristol-based Integrated Offender Management team made up of staff from the Police, Probation, Prison Service and the Criminal Justice Intervention Team. The IMPACT team won 2 awards for their close partnership working, outside of normal organisational boundaries, which enables them to work together more effectively to help reduce re-offending. They work closely with offenders, providing a comprehensive approach to dealing with their criminal behaviour and diverting them away from a life of crime.
One ex-offender said: “IMPACT has given me a chance. I’ve been out for six months now and haven’t offended once, which is kind of a miracle for me!”
The team were presented with their award on the night by Colin Port, Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Sally Lewis, Chief Officer of Avon and Somerset Probation, and Kenny Brown, Governor HMP Bristol.
Rob Wakefield, Avon and Somerset Probation, said: “IMPACT is a superb team composed of talented and committed individuals. Their most important characteristic is that they act like a team - irrespective of their professional base, be it Police, Probation Prison or Drug Worker, they collaborate and support one another to reduce crime and make sure there are fewer victims of crime. We are just so profoundly lucky to have such a talented and committed group from all areas working together as a team”
Superintendent Mike Harris, Avon and Somerset Constabulary, said: “IMPACT is a team made up of staff from a variety of criminal justice and partner agencies who work together to help offenders address the issues in their lives which cause them to offend, with the intention of cutting crime and making Bristol the safest possible place to live, work and play.
Far from being a soft option, those offenders who fail to accept this offer of help receive swift enforcement and their offending is now far less likely to go unnoticed than ever before.
We are privileged to have a highly motivated and dedicated team who have taken this new way of working from a concept and turned it into reality in an incredibly short period of time. The team have proved themselves to be worthy winners of this award and we are extremely proud to see them being recognised in this way."
Richard Ward, Avon and Somerset Probation Trust 'Achieving Goals and Outcomes' Individual Award
As a Community Payback Supervisor, Richard supervises groups of offenders in the community when working on projects such as graffiti removal and fly-tipping clearance, amounting to over 5000 hours of work a year. Richard won an award for his commitment and enthusiasm toward the Community Payback Project, with projects such as creating a Mobile Welfare Trailer, allowing offenders the use of basic amenities such as hot and cold running water and a toilet whilst working on projects around Bristol.
Richard was presented with his award on the night by Sally Lewis, Chief Officer of Avon and Somerset Probation.
Richard said: “From my point of view this is the bread and butter work that you should be doing; responding to the public. The feedback from the public is fantastic and the reaction from the guys is really positive. It is positive because the moment you have done it you can turn around and see where you’ve been … once you shovel a 2-3 ton of rubbish off the street you turn around and see clean space again.”
